How to Care for Your Newly Hydro-Seeded Lawn
Once your lawn has been treated with hydroseeding CT the actual work starts. It is important to give your newly-seeded lawn a bit of TLC.
What are the most effective ways to achieve hydroseeding results?
-
Hydroseed is best watered every day for between 10 to 20 minutes per day.
-
The green color will fade over 2-7 days.
-
The watering time should be between the hours of 4:00 a.m. between 4:00 and 11:15 a.m. (Remember to drink water after dark).
-
You can alter the quantity of water you drink according to the weather and the season. It is recommended to water more frequently and for longer durations of time. You can also reduce the frequency of watering during the autumn months that are cooler, and for shorter periods.
-
Hydroseed needs to be kept moist in order to allow it to germinate correctly. Hydroseeds do not have to be continuously saturated.
-
Don't let water sit on your lawn. Instead, make sure it stays damp and moist. Reduce the frequency you water your lawn in the next about 4-6 weeks.
HYDROSEEDING CT MAINTENANCE & CARE:
How do you keep your hydro seeds in good health?
Germination can start in some areas in just 10-14 days. The lawn will be ready to be mowed in 6-8 weeks if there is sufficient germinating. The lawn will fully develop within 6-9 months.
In the initial six weeks, do not drive in areas that are planted.
Certain areas are more successful than others due to various amounts of sunlight or shade, as well as water. This is common for all applications of hydroseed. After about 4-5 weeks, the lawn will begin filling up. It is worth scraping away the areas that are thin and then planting them by hand. Mix fescue and rye together with Kentucky bluegrass to get the most effective results.
It is strongly recommended to apply an 18-24-12 starter fertilizer to your lawn following it is hydroseeded. After three weeks of application, it is possible to apply a second beginning fertilizer. Don't apply any weed control products to the lawn during the initial 10-12 weeks.
There are weeds that may be growing on your lawn. After the grass is established it is possible to use an herbicide to eliminate the weeds.
The first time you mow your lawn is scheduled for approximately five weeks after it has been hydroseeded. It is recommended to cut grass after it has dried and using a push mower. This can prevent the seedlings from being damaged. Let the soil dry completely prior to mow. The clippings can be left on the lawn, however, do not allow clumps to remain on the lawn because they can harm the seeds.
Do not let your lawn get too tall. Then, you must cut the grass back to a reasonable height. This can damage the grass and make it harder to get it back to its original state. If you're going to a vacation destination, or are unable to mow your lawn for more than one week, it is best to employ a professional to handle the job. Don't cut your lawn for more than 1/3 of its length in one mow. It is recommended to wait for about 4-5 days before you reduce it to around 3".
