Types Of Flowering Plants Listed

Nov 29

Flowers come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and hues. Tree peony flowers have a diameter of nearly 12 inches, whereas sweet alyssum flowers are just half the size of a pencil eraser. From lobelia to trees over 30 feet tall, flowers may be found on a variety of plants. No matter how little or huge the terrain, flowering plants may be found there.

Annuals

Annual plants are those that survive for only one season. The seeds germinate, grow into seedlings, become adult plants, and blossom. The plant perishes when the first cold hits. Vegetables are mostly annuals. Vegetables that bloom and bear fruit include tomatoes, peppers, squash, peas, and beans. Combine these vibrant plants with annual flowers like cosmos, marigolds, zinnias, stock, sweet peas, and snapdragons in your flower garden.

Biennials

Plants known as biennials grow from seeds the first year, bloom the next year, and then wither and die. One example is hollyhocks. The biennial parsley is more often thought of as a herb than a flower. The second-year flower has a Queen Anne's lace-like appearance.

Perennials

Plants known as perennials live for many years or longer. After blooming or the first frost, they fall dormant until reviving in the spring. Lantana, bougainvillea, and cannas are examples of tropical perennial flowers. They could grow all year in warm climates. They are categorized as annuals and need to be replaced each year since they die in the fall when planted in cold winter climes. Common perennial flowers include columbine, echinacea, delphiniums, foxglove, carnations, Shasta daisy, and candytuft.

Bulbs, Tubers, and Corms

The bulbs, corms, and tubers of a plant contain the genetic material needed to reproduce the plant. Spring bulbs include daffodils, crocuses, iris, hyacinths, and tulips. Among the bulbs that bloom in the summer are amaryllis, day lilies, Oriental lilies, and Asiatic lilies. Examples of corms include gladiolus, ranunculus, and freesia. Tubers include plants like begonias and bearded irises.

Trees & Bushes

Fruit trees that are planted need to bloom before they can start bearing fruit. Examples of deciduous trees are pear, apple, cherry, peach, and plum trees. Citrus fruits including lemons, limes, oranges, and others grow on evergreen fruit trees. Some trees are cultivated more for the splendor of their flowers than for fruit production. Among them are the dogwood, orchid tree, and crape myrtle.

The various blooming bushes include roses, of course, as well as hydrangeas, forsythia, imitation orange, and many more. Bushes may be either evergreen or deciduous. For instance, roses are deciduous in cooler climes but evergreen in warm winter climates like California, Florida, and Arizona.
